2024 Box Office: I Foolishly Predict the Biggest Hits For Each of the Next 12 Months

Will 'Dune 2' top 'Kung Fu Panda 4'? Wil anything break out in August? Why 'Sonic 3' might be bigger than 'Lion King 2' and why 'Beetlejuice 2' may be a monster hit

As has been tradition since 2015, I am starting the new year by making a prediction of the year’s biggest global box office earners. However, as is also tradition, this will be itemized into the likely biggest earners for each month. No, this isn’t accounting for release date changes (glancing at my 2020 list is a grim trip) or surprise titles, and it only includes Hollywood flicks (apologies to whatever rules China in 2024).  

Will I go 12/12? Nope, I never have and honestly, I wouldn’t want to. Surprises, especially happy ones where films perform better than hoped, are part of the fun. Less fun is the notion that some months only offer two or three legitimate contenders in the first place (August could really use a surprise Lady Gaga concert flick), a symptom of yet another understocked year for wide-release mainstream cinema.
