Friday Box Office: 'Borderlands' Bombs, 'Deadpool & Wolverine' Nears $1 Billion
'Cuckoo' is not the next 'Longlegs,' but Universal is having a not-so-bummer summer thanks to 'Twisters' (domestically) and 'Despicable Me 4' (everywhere).
Between It Ends with Us opening with around $50 million for the weekend and Deadpool & Wolverine repeating in the top spot with around $55 million, this weekend will be essentially even with the previous frame. $105 million is bigger than the $96 million Deadpool 3 earned in its second weekend. This is also an unmistakable “rank doesn’t matter” frame. Ryan Reynolds’ wife and Blake Lively’s husband are both kicking box office ass. Whether their combined self-promotional efforts helped both of their respective pictures, they certainly didn’t hurt. The overall domestic frame should be around $163 million, down just 5% from last weekend and up 38% from this frame in 2023 and even up 23% from this frame in 2019. Crazy notion, but when you fill theaters with a variety of movies in the month of August, you tend to get bigger box office for the month of August.
