Box Office: King Kong and Godzilla Save Movie Theaters (Again) With Kaiju-Sized $194 Million Worldwide Launch
Once again, the kaiju heroes we needed (but didn't deserve) rallied hard over Easter weekend to help resurrect a struggling theatrical industry.
Is this how it’s going to be now? Every three years, amid pandemics, supply shortages or whatever other catastrophe is plaguing the theatrical industry (through little fault of its own), the Super Monster Bros. (credit to Aaron Neuwirth on that one) will rise on Easter weekend to give the global theatrical industry the shot in the arm it so badly needs? Granted, they had help this time out from a handful of overperforming March tentpoles because - to quote another WB franchise whose reinvention was a bit rockier - you can’t save the world alone. This time, to paraphrase Kyle Chandler’s “Gary Stu” protagonist in King of the Monsters, this time Dune Part Two, Kung Fu Panda 4 and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire joined the fight.
