Box Office: 'Snow White' Flops With Disastrous $87M Worldwide Debut
The poorly-reviewed Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot-starring musical offered nothing that might entice moviegoers that didn't give a damn about another Disney remake.
In a classic case of “rank doesn’t matter,” Disney’s Snow White remake did top the domestic and (at least among MPA titles) global weekend box office. However, a debut Fri-Sun haul of $43 million and a worldwide cume of $87.3 million is not a fairy tale ending for Disney. That’s just below the $46 million debut for Tim Burton’s live-action Dumbo in late March 2019. However, six years’ worth of inflation would put that opening at $57 million, ironically about where Snow White was hoping to land this weekend. Moreover, Dumbo, like Aladdin and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, cost “just” over/under $180 million compared to a reported $250 million for Marc Webb’s respective live-action redo. Dumbo earned $115 million domestically and $350 million globally from its $46 million/$119 million opening weekend. A similar run would give Snow White just $110 million domestically and $260 million worldwide.
