Box Office: 'Snow White' Nabs Entirely Business As Usual $3.5 Million Thursday
Disney's latest live-action remake debuted with pre-release grosses on par with a decade's worth of Disney remakes and mid-March family flicks.
Snow White got off to a perfectly “normal” start with $3.5 million in Thursday grosses. That is in line with the likes of Cinderella ($2.3 million/$68 million in March 2015), How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World ($3 million/$55 million in March 2019), Dumbo ($2.8 million/$46 million in March 2019), Maleficent: Mistress of Evil ($2.3 million/$38 million in October 2019), Shazam: Fury of the Gods ($3.4 million/$30 million in March 2023) and Kung Fu Panda 4 ($3.8 million/$58 million in March 2024). While most of those examples were in pre-COVID/pre-Disney+ times, they were also primarily in-month examples of this kind of all-quadrant family-skewing biggie opening at least “late” enough in the process to more accurately reflect the increase in pre-release moviegoing. This isn’t 2010 when Alice in Wonderland could parlay a $3.9 million midnight gross into a $40 million Friday and $116 million opening weekend.
