Box Office: ‘Kalki 2898 Ad’ Opens With $11M (That’s Good) as ‘Horizon’ Also Debuts to $11M (That’s Bad)
'Bad Boys: Ride or Die' has passed $300 million, but 'The Bikeriders' crashed in weekend two. Meanwhile, 'Thelma' is already among Magnolia's biggest earners ever.
The domestic total for this late-June weekend was around $155.5 million, essentially tied with last week, 19% higher than the same frame in 2023 and 2% higher than the $153 million total for this pre-holiday weekend in 2019. Once again, as we’ve known since March 2021, or at least May 2021, a pre-COVID volume of big movies (and small movies, natch) will mean pre-COVID levels of overall theatrical revenue. And once again, a franchise soared to record-breaking heights even with pandemic-related variables, streaming competition and shrinking theatrical windows. And yet again, rank is less important than the raw grosses. Inside Out 2 topped the Fri-Sun frame with $57 million (-44%) in its third weekend, but A Quiet Place: Day One is as much of a winner with $53 million in its maiden voyage.
