In the weekend box office report for the weekend of October 18…

  • Smile 2 (a $23 million domestic and $46 million worldwide debut) showed that not every sequel needs to be a breakout sequel to qualify as a successful follow-up.

  • Anora's per-theater debut was the second-biggest of the decade and also one of the highest per-theater averages for a “six theaters or more” platform debut.

  • The Wild Robot (and Beetlejuice 2) held firm despite being on PVOD.

  • Terrifier 3 might pass the domestic total of Joker: Folie a Deux and has proven to be the opposite of a one-weekend wonder.

  • Beetlejuice Beetlejuice topped Dune Part Two as 2024’s fourth biggest domestic grosser, while its domestic-skewing totals raise more questions about IP nostalgia that aggressively skews stateside.

  • All of that and more!
