'Salem's Lot' Lacks Bite, While 'Resident Evil' Smells Like a Trap - And More

'Joker 2' gets a surprise release date in China while Lionsgate's first trailer for Ana de Armas' 'Ballerina' looks pretty cool with or without the 'John Wick' connection.

In tonight’s “published exactly when I intended and not hours later” newsletter...

  • Ballerina gets a solid trailer that looks cool on its own merits, which is what Lionsgate hopes for amid a planned 2025 theatrical comeback.

  • Salem’s Lot will evoke skewed nostalgia for 2020, namely that it’s a seemingly promising theatrical that got sent to streaming partially because it’s lousy.

  • Joker 2 gets a release date in China, allowing me to wax nostalgic about the kind of Hollywood tentpoles that *actually* broke out in the Middle Kingdom in the 2010s.

  • As Sony allegedly plans a new Resident Evil, I rant about branded franchises (like Transformers) in which the movies are more popular than the IP.
