Based on Peter Brown’s best-selling novel and released by Universal, DreamWorks Animation’s acclaimed and crowd-pleasing The Wild Robot has become an increasingly rare non-sequel and non-IP-focused animated hit, at least partially due to its sheer quality. Lupita Nyong’o shines, as usual, as a machine that chooses to become a caregiver to an orphaned animal and becomes, well, more than she was programmed to be. The picture, written and directed by four-time Oscar® nominee Chris Sanders, has earned $144 million in North America, four times its $35.8 million opening weekend, and $325 million worldwide, four times its $79 million production budget. It has also earned three Academy Award nominations, three BAFTA Film Award nominations and ten Annie Award nominations.
