Listen now | An old friend stops by to discuss the new MLK weekend releases, including a better-than-hoped debut for 'One of Them Days' and the softer-than-expected debut for 'Wolf Man'
Was listening to this on the way back from finally seeing Nosferatu and you’ve hit on why I found it underwhelming: Orlock’s design suuuuuuucked. You had perfection with Orlock’s OG design and you way over thought it. Overall a mixed bag with moments of greatness. Eggers made a total hash of the castle sequence and that the bread and butter of all Dracula adaptions. Shame.
Also, pull the goddamn camera back, Robert, let me see how small Jonathan is compared to the vastness of the castle. Too many tight shows. Oh well, I shouldn't bitch too much. It was still very solid, technical elements were top-tier, costumes magnificent. I'll prob like it more as the years go on, but it wasn't the mind-blowing masterpiece I imagined it would be, which is an unfair standard to put on any film. Herzog did it much better, though.
Oh snap Egger’s next film is Werwulf - Focus IS doing a covert universal monsters movie universe helmed by Eggers.
