Mea culpa: I was wrong. Jon M. Chu's first "act" succeeds - with terrific star turns from Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande - as a compelling and satisfying fantastical musical tragedy that doesn't feel like half a movie.
Now, I’m excited. I really enjoyed the novel and I’m familiar with the big songs of the musical. I think I have been subconsciously waiting for the movie and first reviews to drop to really get invested in this project.
Are the visuals better in person? The trailer looks sooo fake like everything is CGI I hate that. PS when I got the notification I thought it was going to be the podcast and was disappointed 😂
I remember reading the manuscript as a story editor at the studio I worked for before it was published. I recommended; they passed. Such a mistake…in any case, I’ll be looking forward to seeing this ASAP, especially Errico. She’s absolutely phenomenal.

It’ll have a hard time displacing Joker 2 as my favourite musical this year but you’re got me excited.
