I’ll plant my flag in the ground now that Joker 2 winds up being the highest grosser of the year. No Dead Pool movie ever crossed a billion but Joker did. Another pundit I listen to, Michael Vogel (a gay man) made the point that gay guys obsessed with Lady Gaga, comic book fans, and anarchists are all going to descend on the theatres at the same time for Joker 2 and it’s going to be wild. Me, as a fan of subversion and Jimmie rustling, will just sit back and nod silent approval in the theatre.
As a Canadian, I find the whole discourse around Civil War fascinating. Firstly, it’s made by an English guy basically telling the American left to lay down their arms because defending your rights can be messy (thanks for the tip King George), and he gives in to the “bothsideism” fallacy but guy was raised in a parliamentary democracy like me where we have more options than two parties. I always vote for the NDP (thanks to the coalition government with the liberals we got dental coverage for kids pushed through) so I never understood twisting yourself into knots defending the indefensible positions of conservatives or trying to find a “middle ground” with fascists. I just vote socialist and be done with it. Weird, weird movie.
