Ryan Scott had to skip out on this episode, so it’s just Scott Mendelson, Lisa Laman and Jeremy Fuster talking shop. We spend half the episode discussing the good news (Venom 3, Anora, Conclave, etc.) and the bad news (Here, Juror #2, Absolution). The second half is a listener mailbag episode, including some very macabre conversations about potential Pixar sequels and why The Good Dinosaur 2 should be a cross-over/combo sequel to Ice Age and Dinosaur.
In terms of the written word…
Scott dug deep into the complicated new normal for tentpoles that previously got a boost from China and Russia and how it can skew the release narrative for franchise titles like Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning Part I.
Ryan’s latest “Tales from the Box Office” details the 20th anniversary of Pixar’s The Incredibles. He also dug into the colossal commercial failure of The Postman, which dampened Kevin Costner’s stardom (give or take periodic wins like Open Range) right up until Yellowstone over 20 years later.
Lisa’s profoundly personal review of Anora is worth a read, although you might want to wait until after seeing Sean Baker’s buzzy tragicomedy. Oh, and her article on Shudder’s recent slew of original horror movies makes a convenient cheat sheet for my wife.
Jeremy Fuster dug deep into Governor Newsom’s entertainment industry-specific incentive plan to double the tax rebate cap for films and television shows that shoot in California. I linked to that last week, but it’s probably the most critical industry story at the moment, so read it twice.

Meanwhile, Ryan has an in-print story in the latest issue of Fangoria. So, if you’re so inclined, it’s volume 2, issue 25.
